Simply the best

I thought the glowing reviews were fake. But it is true: a sauna hat cannot get any better than this. It fits, my long hair fits inside too, it is feather light, it protects even at 194°F (90°C) and you do not look ridiculous.

Super sauna hat

Good hat!

It started with one hat.

Our founder Florian Meyer wanted to protect his head from the heat in the sauna, so he sewed himself a hat. That hat became frihed., Danish for freedom.

Today our hats are designed by frihed. in Lüneburg, Germany, and sewn in the workshop of Lebenshilfe Lüneburg, where people with disabilities work. We are proud of their craft. The design of our hat is registered.

Do I need a hat in the sauna?

You do not have to wear one. Many people like a sauna hat because the head sits in the hottest layer of air in the cabin, and the wool keeps that heat away from head, ears and hair.

Which size should I order?

The Original fits heads up to 26 in (66 cm) and adapts when you fold the brim. From 26.4 in (67 cm), or if you have a lot of hair or dreadlocks, we recommend the Pro.

How hot can the sauna be?

Our hats are made for classic Finnish style saunas, which usually run at around 175 to 195°F (80 to 90°C). Wool does not melt like synthetic fabrics.

What is boiled wool?

Boiled wool (Wollwalk in German) is wool fabric that has been fulled, so the fibers get denser and softer. Our hats are made of 100% wool.

How do I clean my sauna hat?

Most of the time airing it out is enough. If you want to wash it, hand wash it cold with a wool detergent so the wool does not felt.

How does shipping work?
